Mood Board for Mini M&M’s Nursery
Before I get down to nursery business, I wanted to let you guys know that I contributed a recipe for chocolate ginger cookies to the Belly Blog over at whatsinmybelly.com. (They’re delicious even if you’re not pregnant, I promise.) Matt and I have a baby pool there (join if you want!), and I’m excited to be a part of their blog now, too.
So anyway, today marks the halfway point of my pregnancy — woot! Since I’ve been too tired and ill to do any actual work in the nursery yet, I whipped up a mood board of our ideas so far:

I’ll give you a second to finish ooh-ing and aww-ing.
Yeah, so our colors are golden yellow, hot pink and white, and the furniture will be espresso/black-brown. The background of the board represents the wall color, which will be hawthorne yellow by Benjamin Moore or something similar. And now I’ll explain all the other goodies from top to bottom-ish:
Ever since before I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to paint the chorus lyrics of “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles over our baby’s crib. I love both the original version and Ben Folds’ cover. I plan to use a yellow that’s a few shades darker than the wall color, and I’ll be sure to post details once it’s done.
I’m going to try making a paper mobile like this one, only in a gradient from golden yellow to white instead of multi-colored. And while I have the scrapbook paper out, I’ll probably also make a pink paper flower garland to hang somewhere in the room.
The crib we’ve picked out has a changing table attached to it, which we think will work really well for our space and be convenient for 3 a.m. changes, but if any moms out there think this is a terrible idea, please let us know. We’re new.
Hopefully my sewing skills are good enough to make a crib skirt because I’m in love with this fabric. Other than that, as far as bedding goes, we just plan on using white sheets and a blanket that one of my sweet bosses is knitting for us.
I also really like this fabric, which I want to use to cover a pillow to set on this rocking chair that we’re going to buy on our next Ikea run. The rug, we’ll also grab at Ikea. “But that’s just a plain white rug,” you’re saying. Ah, but I’m going to paint pink stripes on it using different widths of painters’ tape. Again, I’ll be sure to post details.
Oh, and the white curtains are going to get painted too — stenciled, actually — with the medium and small versions of this zinnia stencil in two different shades of golden yellow.
This Ikea bookshelf already lives in the room, which is currently our office/junk room. We plan to convert it into a dresser/bookshelf by adding fabric drawers to some of the cubes, and filling others with books and toys like this adorable stuffed octopus, which makes me want to learn to crochet.
Over the shelving unit will hang a lighted canvas similar to this LOVE one, only with Mini M&M’s first initial, which I’ll reveal when I post the finished canvas. (Hint: It’s not M.) And finally, this hot pink pendant light will hang from the vaulted ceiling overhead.
So what do you think? I know it might be a little bright/bold for some people, but we love it. Hopefully our new little resident will approve come May.

I can really see it coming together now, and I’d love to bake the cookies with “my daughter” when I visit later this month!
Such pretty stuff! As for the crib/changing table combo, I think the only things to consider are whether the changer makes it more complicated to change the sheets (at 3 a.m., or anytime for that matter). We end up taking the mattress out, changing it, then putting it back in on most occasions so this may not be an issue. We broke down and bought one of those breathable bumpers (all the medical peeps say no plush bumpers or soft, loose blankets in cribs) because Josie kept getting her arm stuck and although I don’t like the look I love the purpose it serves. Might want to look at what colors are available in those in case you get another girl who sticks her arm out the crib then cries until you come to help (started after we stopped swaddling, 4 months).
Ah, I never would’ve thought about changing the sheets. That’s definitely something to consider. Thanks, Ashley!
Its very nice and babies love lots of color!
I love it! I’m sure she will too. :)
